about us

Ensemble 88 is a professional, dynamic ensemble specializing in contemporary chamber music. The ensemble brings innovative projects to life by initiating commissions and developing performances in close contact with composers. Crossovers with visual arts, literature, film and architecture are part of the ensemble’s passion and programme.

Ensemble 88 has a permanent core of seven musicians. Besides the traditional core line-up – flute (alto flute, piccolo), (bass) clarinet, (alto) violin, cello, piano, percussion – the ensemble is regularly joined by a soprano.

While Maastricht is the ensemble’s home base, its core work area is the Dutch province of Limburg and the surrounding Meuse-Rhine Euroregion. Ensemble 88 regularly collaborates with composers from this region and is a valued partner of the academies of music in Maastricht, Aachen and Liège.

The ensemble can regularly be heard in the Musica Sacra, Cultura Nova and Ostbelgiën Festival festivals and enjoys working with the Maastricht Composers Foundation and the Centre Henri Pousseur in Liège, among others.
